Because something is simple does not necessarily mean it is easy to accomplish. And personal finances are neither simple nor easy, at least in the beginning. It is not just about math and numbers. They involve human behavior, desires and needs.

Personal finances are not easy because our needs vary from month to month. So do costs. Sure there are static things such as our mortgage/rent or car payments, but unexpected expenses do occur. One month you may need to cover a car repair or lend money to a family member. Not to mention inflation, the rising cost of goods. We also have goals we are trying to meet. Some are big and others are small. An example of a big goal may be saving up for a cruise ⛴️. A small goal may be saving 10% next month. And our goals also change over time.

There are many financial sources of information out there vying for your attention. They claim to help you get rich quick, make money without lifting a finger, solve all your debt problems with one phone call. It is no wonder some of us feel overwhelmed and give up on trying to take control of our finances. I know it is not easy, but small consistent steps lead to big change. Focus on just two or three sources to help you along the way (including this newsletter!).

MMM tip: Give yourself a pat on the back for taking control of your personal finance journey. Wherever you are along the way, you are exactly where you should be.

Until next week!
